Penal code

This page explains how the penal code is organised and how charges are applied on Summit Valley. The individual charges themselves are kept in the police MDT.

⚖️ Charge classes

Every charge belongs to one of three classes, from least to most serious.

📄InfractionMinor offences. Handled with a citation or fine.
⚠️MisdemeanorMore serious offences. Can carry a fine and time in custody.
🚨FelonyThe most serious offences. Carry the heaviest penalties.

🧾 What a charge contains

Each charge in the penal code is recorded with the same set of details.

TitleThe name of the offence.
DescriptionWhat the offence covers, so officers and players read it the same way.
CategoryThe group the charge sits in, used to organise the list.
ClassInfraction, Misdemeanor or Felony.
FineThe monetary penalty attached to the charge.
Jail timeThe time in custody attached to the charge.

🔗 How charges are applied

1
Incident. An officer writes up an incident in the MDT.
2
Link charges. Charges are linked to that incident for the person involved.
3
Fine and jail time. These come from the charge, and the officer can adjust them with a reduction where the situation calls for it.
4
Corrections. A charge that was linked in error can be removed again by the officer.

Fines and jail time are decided by the penal code and the officer’s judgement at the scene. If you think a charge was applied wrongly, raise it through the department or in the Summit Valley Discord .

📚 Where to find the charges

The charge list lives in the MDTThe full list of charges, with each fine and jail time, is maintained in the MDT and is not published on this page. Authorised roles can look charges up there.
